Overview
The Raleigh Summer Youth Employment Program helps teens between the ages of 15 and 18 to develop their skills and prepare for future employment by spending the summer working for the City of Raleigh. The Raleigh Summer Youth Employment Program offers up to 200 jobs this summer. Positions may vary between in-person, remote, and hybrid.
This program runs from June 15 to August 7, 2026. There is a mandatory in-person program orientation on May 16, 2026. If you are hired, a parent or guardian must attend with the new employee, or you will be ineligible.
Additional training dates and times will vary depending on positions throughout the month of May and June before the program starts. All training dates and work locations will be given s position does not require working nights or weekends. Position responsibilities will vary for each participant depending on their work assignment for the summer 2026 program.
Eligibility RequirementsTo be eligible for employment, you must:
- Be age 15-18 as of May 31, 2026 (cannot be a current college student)
- Live within the Raleigh city limits (Raleigh Zip Code)
- Be available to work from June 15, 2026, to August 7, 2026
- Attend mandatory program in-person orientation on May 16, 2026
- Attend all training dates
- Not attending summer school or athletic activities during work schedule
- Not miss more than 5 program days
- Pass drug screening, fingerprinting, and criminal record check
- Submit a completed application and complete a virtual OR in-person interview
- The application email needs to be the YOUTH EMPLOYEE PARTICIPANT, NOT PARENTS.
- Offer letters will be sent in April. Please continue checking your email after applications close as next steps are time sensitive.
- After submitting an online application, you must participate in an online interview or attend an in-person interview. The link is provided on the Raleigh Summer Youth Employment Website, along with this job description.
- At the time of the interview, you will be required to provide proof of age and proof that you have a Raleigh zip code. To meet this requirement, you must show one of the following forms of identification (no exceptions):
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License
- Valid North Carolina Learner's Permit
- Valid North Carolina state-issued identification card
- All documents are available at the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- We will take CURRENT report cards/official transcript with the address shown. If it is a printout without the address, this will be invalid and you cannot proceed with the interview.
Please Note: No school identification cards, military IDs, or passports will be accepted for residency verification.
- At time of hire, you MUST have a Photo complete onboarding. To meet this requirement, you can use the following (no exceptions):
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License
- Valid North Carolina Learner's Permit
- Valid North Carolina state-issued identification card
- Passport
Please Note: No school identification cards will be accepted for onboarding. ONLY GOVERNMENT ISSUED IDs are accepted.
