Extension Program Assistant/Associate

Position Type: 12‑Month Recurring Full‑Time – Permanent (FTE 0.9375)
NC State Extension’s 4‑H Program Assistant will be located in Yancey County and will assist in growing a comprehensive youth development program, meeting the needs of all county youth ages 5‑18. The role supports Extension Agents in recruiting, training, managing volunteer leaders, and implementing workshops, camps, and enrichment programs. This is a field‑oriented position that engages community partners and children across the county.
Responsibilities- High‑school diploma or equivalent (advanced training in related fields preferred).
- Ability to work independently and with broad populations.
- Experience in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers.
- Computer literacy: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Office.
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities.
- Must hold a valid NC driver’s license and personal transportation.
- Availability to work after‑hours, weekends and evenings as occasionally required.
- Experience in child or youth development.
- Experience planning community programs.
- Teamwork and time management skills.
- Knowledge in mass media, marketing and presentations.
- Leadership, citizenship, budget management and public relations skills.
