Location:

Burgaw, NC

Position Type: NC Cooperative Extension (EPS) – 12 Month Recurring, Full‑Time – Permanent (FTE 1.0)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $32,562 commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule:

8:00–5:00, Monday–Friday, with evenings and weekends as needed. Frequent travel within the county and occasional travel in the district or state.

Job Duties

NC State Extension brings research‑based knowledge to all North Carolinians, transforming science into everyday solutions that improve their lives and grow the state. The role is active in the community, meeting clients where and when they are available, and it is not a typical desk job. Responsibilities include program coordination, administrative support, communication, outreach, and data management across the 4‑H Youth Development Programs and the Extension Master Gardener Program.

Program

Coordination & Support
  • Coordinates speakers and presenters for upcoming 4‑H and Master Gardener programs.
  • Identifies and reaches out to topic experts to schedule educational programs and events.
  • Assists with planning, setup, delivery, and follow‑up of programs for youth and adults.
  • Supports both classroom‑based and hands‑on learning experiences, including outdoor and field‑based activities.
Administrative & Data Management
  • Enters and maintains accurate program data in NCSU Extension databases.
  • Completes monthly program reporting and assists with documentation required for Extension accountability.
  • Follows all NCSU Extension and county financial, administrative, and reporting policies.
Communication & Technology
  • Uses computer applications including Microsoft Office and Zoom to support daily operations, with knowledge of email etiquette, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Assists with program promotion through social media and other communication platforms.
  • Provides courteous and professional communication with volunteers, partners, program participants, and the public.
Outreach & Community Engagement
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with individuals and organizations throughout Pender County, including all income levels, ethnicities, and communities.
  • Represents Extension in a respectful, inclusive, and professional manner at programs and events.
  • Assists with volunteer and participant engagement for both youth and adult programs.
Other Work/Responsibilities

The 4‑H Program Assistant / Master Gardener Assistant provides programmatic, administrative, and outreach support to Extension programming serving youth and adults across Pender County. This position supports both the 4‑H Youth Development Program and the Extension Master Gardener Program by coordinating education programs, managing data and reports, and assisting with communication and outreach, working under the supervision of the 4‑H Agent and the Consumer Horticulture Agent.

Education & Experience

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate’s Degree or higher.

Demonstrated interest in continuing education or professional growth is strongly encouraged.

Required License or Certification

Valid Driver’s License and reliable, personal transportation required and must be maintained. Valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire.
