Assistant Professor, Weed Science Extension
Position SummaryThe Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at NC State University seeks an Extension Weed Specialist at the tenure‑track Assistant Professor level. The incumbent will collaborate within the NCSU Weed Science Program and the Crop and Soil Sciences faculty to develop research, extension tools, and training for the agricultural community, while also teaching the Ag Institute weed science course.
EssentialJob Duties
- Develop extension publications and outreach tools and participate in Cooperative Extension faculty training in weed management.
- Publish research results in peer‑reviewed literature and other appropriate outlets.
- Interact with commodity organizations and the agricultural community.
- Teach the Ag Institute weed science course.
- Establish a nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded research program in soybean and small grains weed management.
- Innovative cultural, chemical, mechanical, and biological strategies to improve sustainable weed management recommendations.
- Conduct applied field research.
- Use precision weed management technology such as machine‑guided control or aerial detection and application (preferred).
Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience
- PhD in Weed Science or a closely related discipline.
- Expertise in weed science.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to publish peer‑reviewed research in nationally and internationally recognized journals.
- Experience with field plot research methods.
- Experience with small grains and soybean production.
- Experience with precision weed management technology such as machine‑guided control or aerial detection and application.
- A valid Driver's License and the ability to obtain a NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire. License must be maintained.
