Position: Shelton Challenge Leadership Coach

Position Information

Applicants will need to submit a cover letter, resume, and at least two references by February 15, 2026 for consideration. At least one reference should be a professional reference, and at least one reference should be a family member.

Your cover letter should be no more than 2 pages and address the following:

  • What motivates you to apply for this position, and how do you envision contributing to the development of values-based leaders in a summer camp setting? Define the key qualities that contribute to an effective team, highlighting those you possess and how they will enhance team dynamics.
  • As the Challenge emphasizes staff development, articulate a specific goal you intend to set for yourself throughout the week to contribute to your personal and professional growth. Please share a core value that holds significance in your life, elaborate on the personal importance it holds for you, and explain how you will use that value to help you achieve your goal.

Applicants will also participate in a group interview on Saturday, February 21.

Job Overview

LCS are college-aged students who guide teams, facilitate reflections, and evaluate team performances. They bring college-level enthusiasm to the Challenge, helping high‑school students develop values-based leadership.

Requirements and Preferences

Past Shelton Challenge experience is preferred
, but not required.

Responsibilities
  • Lead daily activities and end‑of‑day reflections, fostering a reflective and engaging team environment.
  • Orchestrate goal‑setting activities, guiding the team toward shared objectives and values.
  • Coordinate morning ceremonies and energizers to contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with peer leaders to establish team expectations, goals, and facilitate regular meetings for effective communication and support.
Work Schedule

Candidates must commit to a full week of camp activities (6 days + 1 day early arrival for staff training) and approximately 10 hours of staff training during May.

Camp dates:
June 27 – July 2, 2026 and July 12 – 17, 2026.

Compensation

One‑time payment of $600.
