About The Department
NC State’s College of Education is a top-ranked institution leading in educator preparation, research, and community engagement. The college conducts extensive research, with over 225 active projects and $151 million in funding, and serves over 1,600 students across various programs.
The college hosts the Belk Center, the Friday Institute, and Elevate, NC State’s inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Elevate, housed within the Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences, aims to support students in academics, employment, personal development, independent living, and social engagement.
Role Overview
The Director of the IPSE Program will lead NC State’s innovative initiative to provide educational opportunities for young adults with IDD. Responsibilities include program leadership, curriculum development, student support, external partnerships, and program growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Leadership & Management (40%):
Oversee design, implementation, and evaluation of the program, including curriculum and student support services. - Budget Management (15%):
Develop and oversee the program budget, securing funding through grants, contracts, and donors. - Collaboration (15%):
Lead cross-campus collaborations, liaising with faculty, leadership, and external stakeholders. - Student Support (10%):
Manage admissions, advising, peer mentoring, internships, and work-based learning. - Curriculum Development (10%):
Collaborate on course design aligned with students’ career goals and compliance standards. - Community Outreach & Recruitment (10%):
Lead recruitment efforts, community engagement, and advocacy for educational equity.
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience
- Doctoral degree in Special Education, Disability Studies, or related field
- At least 10 years working with individuals with disabilities, including 5 years in leadership roles within inclusive postsecondary education or related fields
- Experience managing large-scale educational programs, curriculum development, and student services
Preferred Qualifications
- Success in securing external funding and grants
- Experience with state/federal agencies, vocational rehab, or employment services for disabilities
- Skills in program evaluation, data analysis, and student outcomes assessment
License/Certification
Valid NC Driver’s License required
