As part of the Land Grant University, the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University is composed of over 40 faculty that direct a varied portfolio of programs in teaching, research, and extension. Entomology and Plant Pathology houses the Plant Disease and Insect Clinic, the Larry Grand Mycological Herbarium, Micropropagation and Repository Unit, Structural Pest Management Training Facility, an Insect Museum with 1.9 million vouchered insects, and the Center for Integrated Fungal Research.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences houses 12 Academic departments with 294 faculty, 2,891 undergraduate students and 899 graduate students. This faculty position will be expected to develop an extension, research and teaching program which addresses the biology, ecology and management of arthropod pests in and around structures in urban and rural settings. The successful candidate will conduct cutting edge research on the biology and Integrated Pest Management of arthropod pests and rodents that present human health risks, structural risks, and nuisances in and around buildings and dwellings.

Such pests may include mosquitoes, ants, termites, roaches, and rats, among others. The incumbent will develop an externally funded extension and research program that will be responsible for disseminating practical, science-based pest management information. The official designation of this position is 60% extension and 25% research, and 15% academic. The primary responsibility of this position is to engage stakeholders in the pest management industry, extension educators, pesticide manufacturers, government regulators, and other stakeholders such as property owners and managers.
