Rex Psychiatry runs a busy inpatient consult service at UNC Rex Healthcare, a private, not-for-profit, ~500-bed member of the UNC Health system. The flagship UNC Rex Hospital is in Raleigh, with a recently opened suburban satellite hospital in Holly Springs. The service is staffed on weekdays by hospital-employed psychiatrists, with contractors helping to supplement coverage during time off, weekends, holidays, etc.

Contractors are valued as part of the team and contribute to growth and development of the consult service.

The diverse team provides emergency and consult-liaison psychiatry services for ED and admitted patients 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. The consult service interfaces with ED, hospitalist, intensivist, subspecialty services, and others, and is supported by case management and behavioral health staff for referrals, aftercare, education, and policy implementation. Patients are seen throughout the hospital, including floors, ICUs, ED, and a behavioral health observation unit (an 8-bed, locked wing of the ED with private rooms, open common area, natural light, and dedicated nursing staff).

• Provide inpatient consult-liaison psychiatry services as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Collaborate with ED, hospitalist, intensivist, and subspecialty services to coordinate patient care.
• Work with case management and behavioral health staff to manage inpatient referrals and aftercare planning.
• Support policy development and implementation within the inpatient psychiatry service.

• MD/DO, Board-certified
• Inpatient psychiatry experience; consult-liaison experience preferred
• Per diem plus per-patient pay structure
• EMR:
  Epic
• 8-hour shifts; 7 days/week available; most open shifts on weekends, holidays, and some weekdays (staff time off)
• License:
  North Carolina Medical License; DEA; BLS/ACLS preferred;
  Board certified in Psychiatry
• English language proficiency required
