Why we’re looking for you: We are looking for a qualified Architect or Architectural Designer who is aligned with our values to join our award-winning architectural, planning, and interior design firm. We seek professionals to work in our Raleigh, N.C., office who will bring knowledge, experience, and expertise to the role of Project Architect/Architectural Designer. The Project Architect will be an integral part of the design team for learning environments, workplace design, and other specialty types for a broad range of clients from Life Sciences/Science & Tech, Industrial, to Educational and Cultural Institutions.
JOBSUMMARY
The Project Architect will focus on planning and execution of projects from inception through completion. In this role you will direct, mentor, and/or review work of team members and/or consultants while developing design and technical solutions throughout all phases of a project. The candidate will interface with our clients as needed to share design progress and support our project manager in managing expectations.
PRIMARYRESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with a project manager and Subject Matter experts to develop concepts and documentation for fast-pace projects. Candidate must have a strong grasp of technical architecture, code, and drawing standards and a willingness to learn industry-specific facility guidelines and best practices.
- Produce construction documents, including life safety sheets, typical and specific details, plans, reflected ceiling plans, interior and exterior elevations, sections, and schedules.
- Work directly with engineering consultants to solve technical challenges throughout design.
- Use Revit proficiently to model new and existing buildings accurately in 3D and in accordance with Jacobs Wyper’s internal BIM standards.
- Develop and lead client-facing design presentations for all design phases of a project.
- Have the ability to work independently on smaller projects or direct junior staff on larger projects and delegate tasks.
- Basic understanding of interior and exterior building materials, with respect to comparative costs; key performance and installation concerns; contributions to sustainable design goals; and other crucial features.
- An eagerness to develop the ability to produce a set of construction documents, including life safety sheets, typical and specific details, plans, reflected ceiling plans, interior and exterior elevations, sections, and schedules.
- Understand specification process and has the ability to direct the process in coordination with the drawings. Experience writing specifications is a plus.
- Solid understanding of building and life safety code. Knowledge of hazardous materials code is a plus.
- Proven ability to design, produce technical documentation, and facilitate the construction administration process.
- Familiarity with what’s involved in the selection and specification of furniture and the ability to work collaboratively with our interior design team.
- An interest or expertise in sustainable design is a plus.
- Proficiency in Revit and 3D modeling.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Enscape.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a plus.
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in architecture.
- Professional architectural license preferred but not required.
- Project related travel 1-4 times a year out of state; local travel in Raleigh / Durham and surrounding areas for onsite meetings and project needs.
