Traveling Structural Steel Field Superintendent

A respected structural steel fabricator and erector is seeking an experienced Traveling Field Superintendent to lead steel erection operations on commercial and industrial projects across the Southeast. This role is ideal for a hands-on field leader who enjoys running projects, coordinating crews, and ensuring structural steel is installed safely, efficiently, and according to plan.

As a Traveling Structural Steel Field Superintendent, you will oversee day-to-day erection activities, manage ironworker crews, coordinate equipment and deliveries, and work closely with project managers and general contractors to keep projects on schedule. This role requires regular travel to project sites primarily located in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee structural steel erection activities on commercial and industrial construction projects
• Manage ironworker crews, foremen, and subcontractors on site
• Coordinate cranes, steel deliveries, and erection sequencing
• Review structural drawings, erection plans, and specifications
• Ensure steel components are installed accurately, including columns, beams, bracing, and connections
• Maintain jobsite safety standards, productivity, and quality control
• Conduct daily planning meetings, safety briefings, and progress updates
• Coordinate with general contractors, project managers, and other trades
• Track project progress and assist with schedule management
• Support project close-out and punch list completion

Qualifications

• 5+ years of structural steel erection field experience
• Experience leading crews as a Foreman or Field Superintendent
• Strong knowledge of steel erection sequencing, crane coordination, and jobsite logistics
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and erection plans
• Experience coordinating with general contractors and project managers
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Willingness to travel to projects throughout NC, SC, TN, and GA

Preferred

• Background working for a structural steel fabricator and erector
• OSHA 30 certification
• Experience managing large commercial or industrial steel erection projects
• Familiarity with AISC standards and steel erection safety requirements

Compensation & Benefits

• $95,000 - $130,000 DOE
• Per diem and travel expenses covered
