Project Engineer, Estimator

OVERVIEW:We are looking for a Project Engineer to support successful construction project delivery by coordinating budgeting, purchasing, and project documentation while also assisting with pricing to support the sales team. This role will partner closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent to track costs, manage purchase orders and procurement timelines, support change order documentation, and maintain accurate records throughout the project.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to balance construction priorities with pricing needs to help keep projects on budget and aligned with sales goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Complete and maintain accurate takeoffs, budgets, and purchase orders for all stages of residential construction.
• Support builders with project documentation, schedule revisions, and coordination during active construction.
• Manage RFQs, submittals, and change orders to ensure timely communication between office, vendors, and field teams.
• Assist in maintaining and improving subcontractor scopes of work, agreements, and pricing databases.
• Collaborate with Design and Sales teams to provide clear and timely pricing for custom plans, plan modifications, and client selections.
• Track project costs and variances; research and recommend alternatives that reduce costs or improve efficiency.
• Monitor project progress with Production team and proactively address challenges to keep homes on schedule.
• Serve as a resource for field problem-solving, bridging estimating accuracy with on-site realities.
• Contribute as an active member of the Purchasing & Estimating team Assisting in identifying gaps in takeoffs, pricing, scopes, and workflows.
• Promote HBD’s commitment to safety, quality, and client satisfaction across all projects.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, ora related field.
• Experience in construction is required.
• 2+ years of experience in estimating or project coordination preferred.
