Responsibilities
  • Lead and take ownership of the full estimating lifecycle for assigned civil engineering and infrastructure projects, from initial review of bid documents through final bid submission.
  • Perform in‑depth analysis of civil/site drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports and project requirements to develop accurate quantity take‑offs and cost projections.
  • Develop detailed estimates for civil and marine scopes including earthwork, underground utilities, stormwater systems, concrete, paving, site improvements, airports, structural steel, dams, bulkheads, spillways, seawalls and similar scopes.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers and vendors to secure competitive and reliable pricing that reflects current market conditions.
  • Serve as the primary estimating point of contact for complex or high‑profile civil projects, addressing scope clarifications, risk items and cost‑related discussions during preconstruction.
  • Provide strategic cost analysis, risk assessment and value‑engineering recommendations to support project planning and pursuit decisions.
  • Oversee, mentor and develop Estimators I and II, providing guidance on estimating methodologies, civil construction techniques and professional growth.
  • Ensure all estimates comply with company standards, are thoroughly reviewed and are completed accurately within established deadlines.
  • Partner closely with Project Managers and superintendents during project award and startup phases to clearly communicate estimate assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, quantities and construction methods during the project turnover meeting.
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating processes, tools and best practices within the civil engineering group.
  • Be willing to take on new challenges and develop estimates for unique projects.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback, especially as related to bid and proposal preparation.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Business or related field, coupled with 6‑10+ years of civil or marine preconstruction estimating experience.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities with a solution‑oriented approach and excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and experienced with industry‑standard estimating software (e.g., Heavy Bid, Sage, OST, Procore, Blue Beam).
  • Demonstrated skills in reading and interpreting bid documents and drawings, with a keen attention to detail.
