Operational Risk Management (ORM), operating within the Second Line of Defense, provides independent and objective oversight of operational risks arising from the Bank's people, processes, systems, and external events. This role supports the development, execution, and continuous enhancement of CNB's enterprise Operational Risk Management program. The position partners closely with business units, U.S. Holding Company Operational Risk, and RBC Group Risk Management to assess, monitor, and report on the Bank's operational risk profile.
Responsibilities- Ensure operational risk program execution is consistent with CNB's Operational Risk Policy and Program requirements
- Provide specialized guidance and effective challenge on current and emerging operational, regulatory, and legal risks
- Review and assess strategy initiatives, products, third parties, and clients for operational risk exposure
- Evaluate control design, implementation, testing, and remediation across all Lines of Business
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) by providing advisory support, consultation, and training on ORM tools, policies, procedures, and reporting metrics
- Support execution of all core components of the CNB Operational Risk Management Program, including:
Risk Identification;
Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs);
Key Risk Indicators (KRIs);
Operational Loss Events;
Scenario Analysis;
Risk remediation tracking - Prepare and deliver ORM status reports, dashboards, and key risk metrics for management and governance committees
- Analyze operational loss data from the General Ledger to identify trends, anomalies, and variances against forecasts
- Maintain the Operational Risk Register, including tracking remediation updates from business units
- Partner with Operational Risk Program Managers in the preparation and consolidation of the annual Enterprise RCSA (ERCSA)
- Conduct independent review and challenge of account opening, closing, and unfunded account activity to identify potential Sales Practices risks in accordance with OCC guidance
- Analyze large, complex datasets to identify potential Sales Practices trends at colleague, business unit, division, or executive levels; exercise professional judgment to determine escalation requirements
- Perform comparative analysis across enterprise ORM components (e.g., RCSAs, KRIs, methodologies) and present findings and recommendations to ORM leadership
- Develop and maintain dashboards reporting Conduct Risk metrics to the Management Risk Committee and the Risk Committee of the Board
- Support special projects and initiatives that advance CNB's operational risk maturity
- Strong understanding of the Operational Risk Management framework, including risk appetite, limits, thresholds, and policy governance
- Experience facilitating and overseeing enterprise risk management activities, including evaluation of risk responses and controls
- Ability to identify and assess risks, controls, and issues; perform root cause and impact analysis
- Working knowledge of technology control frameworks, including access management and change management
- Ability to analyze and synthesize data from multiple sources and communicate insights clearly
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to all organizational levels
- Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across functions
- Comfortable leading initiatives and projects independently in a dynamic environment
- Bachelor's degree or higher required; professional certifications (CPA, CA, or similar) strongly preferred
- Ability to work effectively in a matrixed organizational structure
