The Director of Student Standards and Conduct position is responsible for administering the student conduct system and adjudicating alleged violations of conduct policies by University students and student organizations in a fair and timely manner. The Director of Student Standards and Conduct is charged with providing comprehensive leadership, management and vision for the Office of Student Conduct. They will set the tone and direction for this new position, developing conduct codes, adjudication systems and related procedures, and supervising professional, classified, graduate assistant, and student staff.
The director is a participant in developing an educational climate supportive of the mission of the university. Responsibilities center on fostering an environment that encourages sensible conduct choices and personal and educational integrity as values of the institution. This is accomplished through positive educational programs that encourage appropriate behavior as well as through enforcement systems that respond to violations of behavioral standards for the university community.
- Background and knowledge of student affairs with direct experience in student conduct and student behavior management.
- Considerable, progressively responsible, administrative experience as a student affairs professional, including significant leadership experience in student affairs and student conduct operations.
- Working knowledge of legal issues and case law related to student conduct administration.
- Verifiable experience working with faculty, administrators, clerical and other staff, and students in a diverse environment.
- Experience in investigating and resolving conduct complaints.
- An advanced degree in a related field or a bachelor's degree with training and experience to equate to an advanced degree.
- Excellent analytical abilities and strong written and oral communication skills, as well as an understanding of residential life, community programming, leadership development, conflict resolution and legal issues in higher education.
- Knowledge of student development theories and their application.
- Participation and leadership in student affairs professional organizations.
- Attention to detail and evidence of strong supervisory skills.
- A strong background in campus conduct/judicial affairs is preferred.
