Program Overview
The incumbent is a three-quarter-time Ameri Corps position serving 1,200 hours (32 hours per week) over a 10‐month term of service (September 8, 2025 through July 8, 2026). The member will serve public school students in Racine County by preparing, instructing, and evaluating environmental educational programming. In addition, the member will spend 8-16 hours per week assisting in the Racine Zoo Animal Care department with animal husbandry, animal training, and other related service activities as requested by their supervisor.
WorkSchedule
Scheduled hours typically are 4 days a week, 8 hours per day (Monday‐Friday 9:00am-5:00pm) with one weekend day on a rotating basis.
Member Duties- Provide direct educational programming to public school students.
- Create and evaluate environmental interpretive programs.
- Assist in animal care tasks including handling, husbandry, and training.
- Facilitate volunteer recruitment and training; write reflections and document service activities.
The program offers a stipend, comprehensive training, and an education award upon successful completion of the full 1,200 service hours. Additional terms include the allowance to attend school during off hours, provision of uniforms, the recommendation of a car, and permission to work another job during off hours.
