SUMMARY

The Instructor/Program Director for the Dental Hygiene program is responsible for teaching courses at all levels within the Dental Hygiene program. This position involves providing guidance to students on academic matters, curriculum development, classroom and laboratory management, program accreditation, and other related duties. The Instructor is expected to maintain a high standard of teaching, contribute to program development, and actively engage with students and industry partners.

This position reports to the Dean, School of Health.

RESPONSIBILITIES Curriculum Development and Program Accreditation:
  • Obtain and maintain Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
  • Develop, update, revise and maintain program curriculum and instructional materials
  • Ensure curriculum remains relevant, of high quality and meets accreditation requirements
Teaching and Instruction:
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction
  • Teach in diverse settings (classrooms, laboratories, clinical sites, outdoor locations, and online platforms)
  • Foster a clean, organized, and safe learning environment
  • Accommodate day and evening classes
Recruitment, Retention, and Job Placement:
  • Recruit students and foster their persistence through program completion and job placement.
  • Represent the College and program at events, engaging and networking with prospective employers.
Budget Management:
  • Contribute to program budgeting, including managing program-specific funds.
  • Recommend equipment purchases, software upgrades, and inventory maintenance.
Assessment and Documentation:
  • Assess, document, and enhance student learning by evaluating attainment of learning outcomes and maintaining related records.
Advisory Committee Involvement:
  • Assist with recruiting and retaining advisory committee members.
  • Collaborate with advisory committees to develop, validate, and update program content and outcomes.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional, and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, including co‑workers, employers, area high schools, and professional organizations.
  • Actively participate in program planning, department/division planning, professional development opportunities, and regional/state/national meetings and activities.
  • Stay current with professional/technical knowledge and skills in the field and instructional technology/delivery methods.
  • Regularly review and optimize processes to eliminate redundancy and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION

Required

  • Must be a graduate of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)-accredited Dental Hygiene program or a CODA-accredited DDS/DMD program.
  • Must hold a Master’s degree, or higher.
  • Background experience in education and professional experience necessary to understand and fulfill the program goals.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience at the post‑secondary level is preferred.
