Critical Care Nurse in Quincy, MA

A critical care nursing opportunity is available at a Level III Trauma Center Intensive Care Unit specializing in medical and surgical care. This 20-bed Medical ICU handles diverse adult patient cases, including substance overdose, severe psychiatric episodes, diabetic keto acidosis, sepsis, GI bleeds, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, renal failure, and cardiogenic shock. The unit is supported by attending physicians and residents 24/7, ensuring a collaborative and resource-rich environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill adult patients in the MICU.
• Manage patient monitoring, medication administration, and acute intervention with high clinical acumen.
• Interpret telemetry strips accurately to assess cardiac rhythms and respond appropriately.
• Float to medical/surgical units as needed, managing up to 4-5 patients.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians and residents, for continuous patient care.
• Maintain detailed documentation using EPIC electronic medical records.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years continuous MICU experience in one location.
• Proficiency in reading telemetry strips is mandatory.
• Active Massachusetts RN license.
• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Competence in critical care nursing practices, including managing high-acuity patients.
• Ability to adapt to rotating shifts for day staff or fixed night shifts.
• Comfortable floating between ICU and med/surg units with variable nurse-to-patient ratios.

Schedule and Setting:

• Night shifts and every other weekend rotation, 36 hours weekly.
• Rotating day shifts for some positions between 7 a.m.
  
  -7 p.m., 11 a.m.
  
  -11 p.m., or 7 p.m.
  
  -7 a.m.
• Floating responsibilities primarily to med/surg units.
• Free onsite parking available.
