AptPosition
We are seeking a talented Project Engineer for a hybrid position supporting our New England Wastewater Division. This role will primarily work on projects on the South Coast of Massachusetts, so candidates must either reside in that area or be willing to travel there several times a week.
Primary Responsibilities- Prepare technical memoranda, reports, calculations, correspondences, designs, drawings, specifications, permit applications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates on less complex projects or discrete tasks on more complex projects under the direct supervision of senior staff.
- Assist the Project Manager and other senior staff in complying with assigned project schedules and budgets on less complex projects or discrete tasks on more complex projects by actively reporting on project progress and identifying additional work outside the contractual Scope of Work.
- Work with subconsultants under the direction of the Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager.
- Serve as Lead Designer on less complex projects or discrete tasks on more complex projects to produce a fully coordinated project by meeting and effectively communicating with the project team.
- Review calculations, design assumptions, and concepts within discipline to assure quality control.
- Provide technical input into proposals on less complex projects or discrete tasks on more complex projects by developing scope of work, budgets, and schedules relying on historical information or experience.
- Assist in the preparation of technical presentations. Participate in client meetings and/or technical presentations.
- Work effectively and efficiently within established hourly budgets and monitor self‑performance.
- Develop expertise in pertinent local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain positive relationships with clients on technical issues by effectively communicating on a frequent and regular basis as directed by the Project Manager.
- Lead fieldwork such as surveying, GPS data collection, infrastructure inspections and assessment, water sampling, and construction observation.
- Assist with construction administration by tracking and reviewing submittals, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, reviewing, and compiling daily and weekly construction reports, and tracking construction schedules.
- Provide updates to a Senior Project Engineer and/or Project Manager.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff. Provide on‑the‑job training and mentoring for entry‑level engineers and interns.
- Demonstrate advanced skill and proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and other associated computer‑based technical software specific to the discipline.
- Develop increasingly effective writing and presentation skills and can present data that supports technical decisions and the rationale for making them.
- A BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline and 3+ years of wastewater engineering design experience.
- Prior experience working in engineering consulting is strongly preferred.
- Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT), PE License or actively pursuing PE registration in a State(s) where Apex does work, or ability to obtain one by reciprocity.
