Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Success and Partnerships, the Student Wellness Counselor serves supports student wellness and counseling services, with a specific focus on student mental health. The incumbent will also work alongside the Student Program and Wellness Coach at the College to support students' needs. The Wellness Counselor is responsible for providing in-person, virtual, and on-call assistance for students in need.

The incumbent will meet individually with students to provide non-academic support related to a student's transition to college, mental health and wellness, social and emotional support, and other barriers to student success.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree required. Licensure in Clinical Social Worker (LCSW),Licensure in Mental Health Clinician (LMHC), or School Adjustment Counselor license required. Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, and/or Student Affairs strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Three (3) to five (5) years' experience as a professional in social work or mental health counseling; experience in an educational setting preferred; demonstrated interest and dedication to working with a diverse student body; demonstrated ability to think creatively to develop services; strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as organizational skills are required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

TRAVEL: Occasional travel to the Plymouth campus may be required.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Facilitate ongoing educational and life-planning sessions, both in individualized and small group settings.
  • Track student performance and services,and use this tracking to determine direction of services and workshops.
  • Identify high need students who will benefit from student support and wellness counseling and provide timely follow up with these students.
  • Maintain a list of community resources for students, as well as a referral source list.
  • Implement a student referral process and student intervention team for the College.
  • Provide referral services based upon individualized student needs.
  • Conduct regular communication and follow up with student caseload, including a service log and/or therapy notes, student's program of study, as well as a list of all referrals that have been made and to document any crisis intervention and follow up.
  • Engage with students through the College's chatbot system, EdSights.
  • Be available for on-call support and services three (3) to five (5) hours a week.
  • Suggest and implement best practices related to student mental health and wellness in the community college setting.
Other:
  • Assist with other student success program organization and facilitation as needed.
  • Participate in college committees as assigned.
  • Participate in mandatory training/coursework. Including but not limited to:
    • Drug-Free Workplace
    • Non-Smoking Policy
    • Bi-Annual Municipal Ethics Law
    • FERPA
    • Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
  • Assume other related duties as assigned.
