Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in an acute care setting, requiring an IL RN license and strong surgical experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a 48-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital
- Primary care nursing model frequently used, with assistance from LPNs, virtual admission and discharge nurses
- Typical patient ratio ranges from 1:4-6 on nights; LPN and CNA support provided depending on shift
- Day shift, 12-hour shifts starting at 7 AM
- Every other weekend required, holiday rotation participation expected
- Uses Allscripts EMR; experience preferred
- Unit handles neuro cases, joint replacements, abdominal surgeries, vascular cases, and patients with PCAs, TPN, and complex medication management
- Heparin drips titrated per protocol; RNs required to interpret telemetry strips; monitor tech support available with Draeger monitors
- Must float to similar units as needed; may provide help-all support in higher acuity areas without patient assignment
- Role involves managing a fast-paced patient population with frequent admissions and discharges
- First day includes comprehensive orientation with computer modules and competency evaluations
- Team support includes LPNs, CNAs, respiratory therapists, and virtual nurses
- Must be comfortable working with a broad range of post-surgical and neuro patients
- Black scrubs required as dress code
- Accepts local candidates at the same rate
- Active IL RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- At least 1 year of prior surgical nursing experience
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Experience with total joints, PCA pumps, narcotic administration, sepsis management, and TPN/Lipids
- Ability to titrate Heparin drips
- Must be comfortable interpreting telemetry strips
