Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 2 Trauma ICU position in Illinois, requiring at least one year of ICU experience and an active IL RN license.
Responsibilities- Position located in a 16-bed ICU in an acute care hospital setting
- Mixed MICU with some SICU patient population, including medical, surgical, neuro, and trauma cases
- Level II Trauma Center caring for patients with severe traumas, post-surgical recovery, neurological injuries, and complex medical diagnoses
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:2
- Specialized procedures include CRRT (prismaflex), rotaprone therapy, TTM with Arctic Sun, mass transfusions, frequent paralysis, and bedside procedures like sheaths, art line, and tracheostomy
- Required to titrate ICU drips including Precedex, pressors, antiarrhythmics, and sedatives
- EMR system Allscripts is used
- 12-hour day shifts, three shifts per week, starting at 7 AM
- Every other weekend and holiday rotation required
- Floating rarely required, but may float to PCU/CVICU as 'help all'
- Black scrubs required
- Work alongside 24/7 in-house intensivists, hospitalists, and dedicated respiratory therapists
- Tele monitor tech support present, but nurses interpret their own strips
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available for support, sometimes taking small patient assignments
- Receive one 12-hour unit orientation shift on your hire shift
- First day includes general orientation, competencies, and computer-based training
- COVID and flu vaccinations may be required per hospital policy
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- PALS certification preferred
- Minimum of 1 year prior ICU experience in a Level I or II Trauma Center and in hospitals with 300+ beds
- Strongly prefer experience with CRRT and sheath pulling
- Must be able to titrate critical care drips and interpret cardiac monitor strips
- Experience using Allscripts EMR preferred
