Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN with an active IL license and 2 years of acute care experience for a night shift role.
Responsibilities- Work on a 48-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit in an acute care hospital
- Patient population includes neuro, surgical, and orthopedic cases such as laminectomy, cervical fusion, joint replacement, ostomies, hernia repairs, and sepsis
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-6 on nights, with LPNs available and virtual admission/discharge nurse support; primary care nursing model used
- Use Draeger telemetry monitors and Allscripts EMR system
- Three 12-hour night shifts per week starting at 7 PM
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
- Holiday rotation required along with core staff
- No on-call requirement
- Float to similar units only; if floated to higher acuity, will serve as a helper and not take a patient load
- CPAP, Airvo, and occasional Bipap managed by RT; some patients may receive TPN, PICC, Lipids, and heparin drips
- Primary responsibilities include care for post-surgical, neuro, and medical telemetry patients
- Team structure includes Nurse Aides and support from LPNs, as well as virtual nurses for admissions and discharges
- Night shift may have CNA staff pulled for sitter coverage; night shift may be overseen by House Supervisor
- Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift on unit plus an additional 12-14 hour day for competencies and computer modules
- Accepts local candidates
- Black scrubs required
- Environment can be fast-paced with a high volume of surgery admits and discharges
- Active Illinois RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience
- Current certifications in BLS (AHA) and NIHSS required
- Surgical and total joint replacement experience required
- Experience with PCA pumps, narcan, sepsis management, and TPN/Lipids is necessary
- Ability to interpret telemetry strips required
