Manufacturing Engineer – Quincy, Illinois – Contract to Hire.

Job DescriptionSupported by a prestigious team providing high‑quality, work‑ready transportation solutions, the Manufacturing Engineer will drive continuous improvement, plan and manage tooling and manufacturing process development, and support the manufacturing floor.
Responsibilities- Support assembly operations with necessary tooling and processes efficiently and timely.
- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement.
- Define, document, and implement new and modified manufacturing processes.
- Provide line support for assembly operations, including transport, welding, coatings, and finishing processes.
- Create and maintain detailed process documentation for manufacturing processes.
- Design, source, and manage tooling and equipment projects.
- Gather and organize data for projects requiring capital investment.
- Follow procedures for the creation and control of fixtures, lifting devices, and material handling equipment.
- Lead customer groups on factory tours.
- Apply advanced manufacturing engineering skills, such as Lean and Theory of Constraints.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- 0‑1 years proficiency in manufacturing engineering.
- Experience with Solid Works or similar solid‑modeling software.
- Strong communication skills, especially on the shop floor.
- Knowledge of metal fabrication, fixture design, and process improvement.
- Familiarity with manufacturing methods focusing on welding, finishing, and assembly of light‑gauge steel or aluminum.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Experience in production support, tool design, and rack design.
- Capability to create custom tooling and implement it into the process.
- Experience in continuous improvement, including dent reduction and throughput increases.
- Familiarity with automation and implementation of new robots and cobots.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
The role involves working in both office and manufacturing floor settings, primarily in the steel plant with some projects in the aluminum plant. The team comprises approximately 8 engineers and 3‑4 technicians. This union shop requires effective communication and relationship building with operators.
Job Type & LocationContract to Hire – Quincy, IL
Pay and BenefitsPay range: $31.25 – $33.65 per hour.
