Summary Provide strategic human resources leadership with a focus on aligning HR initiatives with business objectives. Oversee HR operations including employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and workforce development. This role ensures adherence to Canadian employment laws and manages HR programs through direct leadership and collaboration with the HR team.
Responsibilities Serve as a trusted advisor to senior management and employees on HR and benefits matters.
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, provincial, and local employment laws in Canada.
Develop, implement, and enforce HR policies and procedures to ensure fair and consistent practices.
Design and deliver employee policies and training programs; consult with legal counsel as needed for compliance.
Investigate allegations of discrimination or misconduct; manage responses to claims and foster a positive workplace culture.
Oversee administration of employee benefit programs and ensure compliance with Canadian standards.
Partner with workforce development teams to create effective recruiting and retention strategies.
Provide guidance on collective bargaining agreements and union-related matters.
Advise managers on equal employment opportunities, compensation, and employee benefits.
Manage compliance reporting, including employment equity and diversity initiatives.
Ensure accurate payroll processing and compliance with union obligations.
Support HR integration during acquisitions and organizational changes.
Requirements 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role (HR Manager or above).
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related field.
Proven experience managing HR functions with regional or national scope.
Strong knowledge of Canadian employment laws and regulations.
Ability to lead strategically while maintaining operational excellence.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both French and English.
Experience with union and non-union environments preferred.
Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Professional HR designation (CHRP, SPHR, or equivalent) is an asset.
Willingness to travel within Canada as needed.
