Position: Lead Video Game Level Designer - Contract
Location: Quebec

Overview

Lead Video Game Level Designer at Squido Studio to design, own, and elevate immersive gameplay experiences for one of our VR games.

This is a leadership role for a creative, curious, and gameplay-driven designer who is passionate about level design, player experience, and community-driven iteration. You will not only shape levels and mechanics, but also lead design direction, mentor designers, and collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams
.

You will play a key role in defining pacing, fun, and depth—designing compelling mechanics and building engaging playgrounds in Unity, optimized for VR.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the vision, quality bar, and execution of level and gameplay design across projects.
  • Design, balance, and iterate on core gameplay mechanics.
  • Create dynamic, replayable levels adapted to game concepts and difficulty progression.
  • Prototype, build, and polish immersive environments in Unity, optimized for VR and Meta Horizon.
  • Collaborate closely with artists, programmers, and audio designers to deliver features, events, and new gameplay interactions.
  • Provide feedback, guidance, and mentorship to other designers.
Community-Driven Experimentation
  • Actively engage with players on Discord and in-game social spaces.
  • Identify emerging player behaviors and trends, and translate them into playable content and experiences.
  • Champion a player-first mindset within the design team.
Testing, QA & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead and participate in playtests; identify issues, opportunities, and improvements.
  • Work with the team to fix, refine, and optimize levels and mechanics.
  • Use player feedback and data to improve progression, pacing, and overall fun.
Documentation & Team Communication
  • Produce clear, structured design documentation.
  • Communicate design intent effectively with art, engineering, and audio teams.
  • Foster a collaborative, open, and iterative team culture.
🧠 What You Bring
  • Strong experience using Unity for level design and/or gameplay design.
  • Deep understanding of gameplay systems and player psychology.
  • Excellent spoken and written English — you will lead discussions, reviews, and cross-team collaboration.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and align design teams
    .
  • Creative, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Passion for games and emerging interactive experiences.
  • High level of autonomy, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
🌟 Nice to Have
  • Experience with VR and/or multiplayer games
    .
  • Basic knowledge of C# and Unity optimization.
