THE POSITION
The psycho educator will play an essential role in promoting students’ optimal development and in creating supportive, inclusive, and safe educational environments. Working closely with school teams, the selected person will assist them in understanding, assessing, and intervening with young people who have difficulties with adjustment, behaviour, or socio-emotional development.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide professional support to school teams by accompanying and co-developing intervention strategies, and contributing to the creation of coordination plans, reintegration plans, and intervention protocols.
Assess students’ needs to guide appropriate intervention options and help implement consistent practices in classrooms and schools.
Offer organizational support in complex or crisis situations, contribute to prevention activities, and participate in interdisciplinary work with other professionals, parents, and partners.
Refer students to relevant individuals or specialized institutions when necessary.
Contribute to training development by offering expertise on socio-emotional skill development and proposing intervention strategies tailored to the needs of students and the school environment.
Participate in case studies within a multidisciplinary team.
Help develop and implement psycho educational services in compliance with educational and administrative frameworks at both the school and school board levels.
Support the identification of students experiencing difficulties, focusing on prevention and intervention; plan and conduct evaluations of adaptation difficulties and adaptive capacities to determine the student’s functioning profile and psychosocial needs; gather information from school or external professionals and parents; select and use appropriate assessments; conduct observations and analyze data to develop intervention protocols or plans.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to issue recommended intervention options; help determine intervention objectives and methods; coordinate interventions with the team and evaluate achievement of goals.
Work with school teams to develop and implement strategies and projects designed to assist students who have or may develop adaptation difficulties.
Support and advise other school professionals working with students in difficulty; propose strategies for intervening with these students and guide colleagues in selecting attitudes and approaches that promote desirable social behaviours and adaptive skills; plan, organize, and lead training activities.
Advise management staff, write expert reports, summaries, and situation updates, and make recommendations to support decision-making.
Support school staff in integrating students into regular classes; suggest appropriate intervention methods or activities based on the student’s situation.
Establish and maintain collaboration and connections with partner organizations; communicate with other concerned professionals to obtain or provide advice and information; may direct students or parents to appropriate resources based on the situation and needs.
May be called to intervene to help defuse crisis or emergency situations and propose potential solutions.
Prepare and update files according to professional standards and the rules defined by the school board; write progress notes, step-by-step evaluations, end-of-process reports, and follow-up reports on interventions
Member of the Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec (Quebec Order of Psycho educators).
Master’s degree in Psychoeducation.
Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English and good knowledge of spoken and written French.
Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, parents, and supervisors.
Ability to establish interpersonal relationships that demonstrate courtesy, respect, and integrity.
Respect for the orientation and values of the school and the community.
