SCHEDULE: Varying shifts, including weekends

SUMMARY

This role provides security for Chief Leschi School. The employee must have the ability to build and maintain rapport with the individuals that visit CLS as well as attend events while maintaining a secure environment for all participants. Responsible to ensure basic school safety rules are being followed and the school premises are not compromised.

ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS

Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Remain present and visible during the hours that are assigned.
  • Monitor facility and event for safety concerns to include parking lots and school grounds.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other people, both in person and over the phone or radio.
  • Know how to access all emergency services such as; police, fire and medical providers.
  • Secure the facility as requested by ensuring everyone is out of the facility, lights are out where appropriate, doors and windows are locked.
  • Must be able to refer concerns, emergencies or dangers immediately to the proper authorities (CLS administration, Puyallup Tribal Police, outside law enforcement agencies, fire and medical)
  • Must ensure at all times the integrity of Chief Leschi School policies and procedures are being followed regarding safety and accountability.
  • Ability to move about all areas of the school campus, sometimes moving quickly to deal with an emergency situation.
  • File all reports in writing
  • Ability to de-escalate individuals and situations in a calm, effective manner.
  • Ability to build strong rapport with appropriate professional boundaries with students, staff, parents, families, guests and the community.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of one year of equivalent experience in security work
  • At least 21 years old
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a Washington State Certified School Security Officer Training Program or ability to successfully complete a program.
  • Hold a valid and current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification card or be enrolled and completion of a training course.
  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License and proof of insurance
