Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) float pool position with night shifts and WA or compact RN license required.
Responsibilities- Work within a hospital float pool environment, primarily assigned to ED holding and PCU units
- Care for a variety of patients including medical, surgical, PCU, and ED holding patients
- Patient ratios are 1:4 in PCU, 1:5 when floated to Med-Surg, and 1:8 team model in Rehab
- 12-hour night shifts with varied weekend requirements based on unit needs
- Potential to float to MSICU, CVICU, CCU, Med-Surg, Oncology, Ortho, Palliative, Rehab, and COVID overflow units for partial shifts as needed
- Uses Epic EMR system; experience preferred
- Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing systems are utilized
- Main responsibilities include providing nursing care for a diverse patient population, primarily in ED holding and PCU settings
- Support from techs, RT, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
- Three-day orientation provided, with additional four-hour orientation on other floated units
- Telemetry competency is required prior to independent practice
- No on-call responsibility and no holiday time-off requests accepted
- Time off up to 5 days considered; additional time requires approval
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active WA or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required; ICU or acute care experience also considered for some units
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Demonstrated skills in cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, lumbar drains, trach care, and titration of IV medications including Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, non-DKA insulin, and heparin
- Strong communication and patient education skills required
- Epic EMR charting experience preferred
