Come join our great Recreation Team! The City anticipates filling 2 Recreation Attendant positions at the Puyallup Recreation Center. The positions will be scheduled for 10-17 hours per week and will include evening and/or weekend shifts.

Our Recreation Attendants provide the primary point of contact for the Puyallup Recreation Center and provide excellent customer service to its clientele. Work entails a great deal of contact with the public and is responsible for building and program supervision, activity preparation, class registration, and some light janitorial duties at the recreation center. Tasks follow well-defined, routine procedures. Normal attention to detail is required to prevent errors.

Responsibilities
  • Uses office equipment including multi-line phone, fax machine, computer/keyboard and related software, and copy machine;
  • Handles registrations through accurate record management;
  • Monitors financial control of daily receipts using Rec1;
  • Performs moderate physical labor (light maintenance), normally in an indoor setting;
  • Maintains equipment inventory;
  • Deals tactfully and pleasantly with the public and staff, performs overall building supervision and crowd control;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of
  • Correct grammar;
  • Basic arithmetic;
  • Basic computer and keyboard skills;
  • Customer service tools;
  • First Aid and CPR methods for all ages;
  • Necessary safety precautions.
Ability to
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Provide excellent customer service when dealing with the public;
  • Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers;
  • Follow through and complete projects/tasks as assigned;
  • Maintain records;
  • Operate Rec1 Software Registration System used for receiving class registrations memberships and other payments;
  • Operate and maintain equipment as assigned;
  • Perform detailed routine procedures accurately under pressure with interruptions;
  • Quickly learn programming methods, facilities, and goals;
  • Read, write, and communicate orally with others in English.
Education and Experience

A combination of education, experience, and training that indicates the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position listed above. Prior clerical experience is desirable.

Special Qualifications
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age or older when applying.
  • Possession of, or be in process of obtaining, a current basic First Aid and CPR (in infant, child and adult) certification card. (You may obtain training through various organizations. Two local agencies which meet OSHA and WISHA standards are The American Red Cross and Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.)
  • Successful candidates must comply with a background check required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act, RCW 43.43.830 through 43.43.840.
Selection Process

Only applications that include the response to the Supplemental Questionnaire will be accepted. Those applicants whose qualifications most closely correspond to the City's current needs will be contacted for interviews. The appointing authority may conduct second interviews.

Hearing, seeing, talking. Frequent Demands:
Sitting, repetitive hand and arm motion, fine finger manipulation. Occasional Demands:
Standing, walking, lifting (average of 30-50 pounds); bending at the waist, crouching, kneeling/squatting, reaching below the knees – knees to shoulder – and above the shoulder, and handling/grasping. Works primarily with: low noise levels with most of the employee's time spend indoors in an office environment.
