QUALITY ENGINEER

Full‑Time, Fully On‑site, Exempt position

Summary Description

The Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for ensuring quality is designed into products and processes and effectively executed in manufacturing. This role plays a critical part in New Product Development (NPD) by applying Design Quality, APQP, and PPAP methodologies to prevent defects prior to launch and to ensure robust, capable production processes. The QE works cross‑functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain from concept through production, and actively supports the production team at the gemba to eliminate root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Design Quality & New Product Development (NPD)
  • Actively participate in early product development activities to ensure quality, manufacturability, and risk prevention are embedded in the design.
  • Apply Design for Quality (DFQ) principles during concept, design, and development phases to reduce downstream manufacturing and field issues.
  • Support DFMEA and PFMEA activities, ensuring risks are identified early, actions are implemented and verified, and FMEAs are maintained as living documents through launch and production.
  • Partner with Engineering to ensure design outputs are compatible with manufacturing capability, inspection methods, and process controls.
APQP & PPAP Leadership
  • Lead and support APQP activities from program kickoff through production launch, including Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, and measurement and inspection strategies.
  • Ensure quality requirements are clearly defined, flowed down, and validated prior to production release.
  • Own or support PPAP submissions, including dimensional results, capability studies, MSA results, and alignment between Control Plans and PFMEAs.
  • Ensure PPAP readiness and approval prior to shipment, and support customer PPAP reviews as required.
Manufacturing Quality & Gemba Engagement
  • Provide hands‑on Quality Engineering support to manufacturing operations.
  • Work directly with production team members at the gemba to observe actual process conditions, validate problem statements, and identify true root causes.
  • Drive implementation of poka‑yoke (error‑proofing) and process controls to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure corrective actions result in long‑term process stability and do not rely on inspection‑only containment.
Problem Solving & Corrective Action
  • Lead structured root cause analysis using 5‑Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa), and 8D methodology.
  • Implement, verify, and sustain corrective actions.
  • Ensure corrective actions address systemic causes and are embedded into standard work, Control Plans, and FMEAs.
Measurement Systems & Statistical Methods
  • Lead and support MSA activities (Gage R&R, bias, linearity, stability).
  • Lead and support SPC implementation and interpretation.
  • Lead and support capability studies (Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk).
  • Ensure measurement systems and statistical methods support reliable decision‑making and process control.
Technical & Manufacturing Support
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications, including blueprint reading and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Support manufacturing processes involving metal components and assemblies, including fabrication, welding, machining, forming, and stamping.
Standards & Compliance
  • Support compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable customer requirements (automotive / OEM).
  • Support internal, customer, and third‑party audits.
  • Maintain accurate quality documentation and records.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Act as an ambassador and project a “good company image” at all times maintaining a positive, solution‑oriented approach.
  • Is knowledgeable of company policies and quality procedures.
  • Ensures all areas are maintained in accordance with company policy, state, federal and regulating entities.
  • Is aware of and actively supports the achievement of departmental goals. Implement new company initiatives as assigned.
  • Provide internal and on‑site customer support and problem…
