Assistant - Culinary Arts
The Pierce County Skills Center is seeking para educator applicants for our Culinary Arts program. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work under the supervision of certificated staff to prepare materials, set up classroom and equipment for training and instruction, carry out assigned tasks to reinforce instruction, and assist students in the cafe and classroom. This position is 7.5 hours per day / 180 days per year.
THIS POSITION WILL BE HIRED BY THE PIERCE COUNTY SKILLS CENTER, NOT THE BETHEL SCHOOL DISTRICT.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assists certificated instructors in classroom by reinforcing instruction in various Career and Technical Education (CTE) skills related to the Culinary Arts industry.
- Ensure that food presentation is consistent and meets quality standards.
- Provide front‑of‑house supervision for the PCSC cafe, The Summit.
- Encourage students to prioritize customer satisfaction and provide excellent service.
- Train students in customer service, food safety, and front‑of‑house operations.
- Supervise students during shifts, ensuring they adhere to procedures and maintain a high level of service.
- Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to help students improve their skills in conjunction with certificated instructors.
- Oversee catering and event coordination.
- Work with students to plan and execute these events, ensuring they run smoothly and meet the expectations of customers.
- Willingness to participate in lesson and program planning, staff meetings, and conferences.
- Under the direction of the certificated instructors, plans work projects, prepares materials, sets up work stations and equipment for classroom and individualized activities, instruction, and training, and imparts trade knowledge regarding the occupational tasks being learned by the students.
- Provides necessary supervision before, during, and after class activities to ensure safe practices are followed.
- Work with instructors to build, modify, maintain, and set up various workshop equipment for instructional use.
- May assist certificated instructors with the evaluation of student work activities and performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned requiring essentially the same effort, skill, and responsibilities when work requirements are changed or modified.
- Willingness to work summer school session(s) – hours paid in addition to regular school year contract.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff members.
- Be enthusiastic, flexible, and have a commitment for students to reach high learning standards.
- Require the ability to foster student development in the Culinary Arts program.
- Require experience gained through technical training and/or work experience related to the Culinary Arts industry.
- High School diploma or equivalency required.
