Legal Secretary
Milber Makris Plousadis & Seiden, LLP, a full-service civil litigation defense firm and business partner to the insurance industry, is seeking a paralegal with prior law office experience to assist attorneys in all phases of litigation. This role is based in our Purchase, New York office and requires four days a week in office and one day remote, following a minimum of six weeks in-office training.
Candidates must be eager to learn, organized and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Experience in insurance defense litigation and paralegal certification is a plus but not mandatory.
Experience Requirements:
- 3+ years' prior paralegal experience
- Computer proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Excel & Adobe Acrobat
- Highly proficient in typing with excellent grammatical accuracy
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, knowledge and understanding of legal terminology and procedures
- Proficiency in drafting legal documents
- Proficiency with electronic filings in the State and Federal Courts
Primary job duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Reviewing case assignments and examine claim documents, pleadings, and supporting records for consistency, legal sufficiency, and relevant deadlines
- Calendar management for assigned caseload
- Coordinating with support services, opposing law firms and courts
- Drafting legal documents for review and use by attorneys such as pleadings, discovery demands/responses, notices, affidavits, subpoenas, RJIs, and other routine legal documents
- Motion preparation and identification of exhibits
- Document productions and red actions
- Preparation of witness/exhibit lists and trial binders
- Retention of expert witnesses, preparation of expert indexes, production of records
- Organizing and maintaining case files, including electronic files and document management systems
Summary
As a Paralegal, you will be integral to supporting legal teams by managing case files and drafting essential documents. Reporting to attorneys, you will utilize core skills such as litigation support and document review. Your strong communication and organizational skills will ensure efficient case management and client interaction. With a Paralegal Certificate and proficiency in Microsoft Office, you will contribute to the success of our legal practice in a fast-paced environment.
