Position: Sr Consultant ServiceNow SAM Specialist (Software Asset Management)

Brief Overview:

- Sr Consultant Service Now SAM Specialist  (Software Asset Management)
Experience : 5+ years
The Service Now SAM Specialist is responsible for end‑to‑end Software Asset Management across the organization, leveraging Service Now to accurately discover, normalize, and optimize software assets. This role ensures audit readiness and license compliance, drives cost savings via entitlement optimization, and partners closely with stakeholders across cross functional teams and business units. Strong documentation, communication, and project management capability are essential to deliver measurable value through SAM processes and tooling.
Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience in leading ITAM initiatives, optimizing software asset utilization, and implementing best practices to enhance operational efficiency. Strong analytical skills, project management experience, and familiarity with ITAM tools and frameworks are also required.

This level of experience ensures that the candidate can effectively manage complex IT asset environments and contribute to the overall strategic goals of the organization.
Qualifications

Certifications (Preferred)

Service Now Certified Implementation Specialist – Software Asset Management
ITIL Foundation Certification
Knowledge of Hardware Asset Management (HAM)  would be an added advantage.

Service Now SAM / SAM Pro
Service Now Discovery & CMDB
ITSM / ITAM /ITOM modules
Microsoft SCCM, Intune, or other endpoint management tools (nice to have)

Additional Information

Manage  end-to-end Software Asset Management (SAM)  lifecycle using Service Now.
Own the full SAM lifecycle:  discovery → normalization → reconciliation → remediation → optimization .
Configure and maintain  Service Now SAM Pro  for license models, entitlements, and compliance.
Ensure  audit readiness  and maintain Effective License Position (ELP).
Identify  unused/underused licenses ; implement  automated reclamation  and right‑sizing.
Recommend alternative licensing models, consolidation, or de‑duplication
Establish and maintain  policy standards  for software requests, approvals, deployment, and retirement.
Serve as  SAM subject‑matter expert  to business, IT Ops, procurement, vendor management, finance.
Translate technical findings into  clear business impacts  (risk, cost, timelines); drive decision‑making.
Facilitate  governance forums  and publish periodic  SAM scorecards .
Prepare and lead  internal/external software audits  (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, IBM).
Maintain a current  Effective License Position (ELP)  for top publishers, document compliance posture and variances.
Implement  controls and processes  for true‑up cycles, renewals, and mid‑term adjustments.
Communicate with  stakeholders  across IT, procurement, and finance.
Prepare and maintain  documentation  (SOPs, audit artifacts, reports).
Drive  optimization and cost savings  through license reclamation and usage analysis.
Apply  project management practices  for SAM initiatives and governance.
Hands‑on Service Now SAM  including configuration, reconciliation, optimization, and audit support.
Strong understanding of  software licensing models  (SAP, IBM, Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, etc.).
Excellent  communication and stakeholder management  skills.
Proficiency in  documentation  and reporting.
Knowledge of  project management methodologies .
Strong analytical mindset with attention to data quality, normalization, and  root‑cause analysis .
Vendor audit experience with at least  2 major publishers . Nice‑to‑Have (Preferred)
