Position Purpose
The Pediatric Endocrinologist will be responsible for delivering comprehensive clinical care , advancing research and innovation , and contributing to academic teaching and leadership at the Centre of Excellence for Type 1 Diabetes at HCJMRI and the Growth and Pediatric Endocrine Unit, HCJMRI.
The role encompasses responsibilities across clinical service, research, education, program development, and leadership , commensurate with experience and academic standing.
Key
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Clinical Care & Service Delivery
● Provide specialized outpatient and inpatient care for children and adolescents with:
o Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
o Complex and refractory diabetes cases
o Associated pediatric endocrine disorders (as applicable)
● Manage newly diagnosed diabetes cases, acute complications (including DKA) including all emergency admissions, and long-term follow-up.
● Prescribe and monitor insulin regimens, including MDI, insulin pumps, and hybrid closed-loop systems.
● Utilize and oversee Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) and emerging diabetes technologies.
● Lead and participate in multidisciplinary care involving diabetes educators, dietitians, psychologists, nurses, and social workers.
● Ensure adherence to evidence-based national and international clinical guidelines.
● Support transition care from pediatric to adolescent services.
● Support Pediatric Endocrinologist in clical care of other pediatric endocrine patients (IPD+OPD).
2. Research & Innovation
● Participate in, initiate, and lead clinical, translational, and outcomes-based research in:
o Type 1 Diabetes
o Pediatric endocrinology
o Diabetes technology and long-term outcomes
● Design research protocols, obtain ethics approvals, and ensure regulatory compliance.
● Develop and maintain clinical registries, databases, and outcome tracking systems.
● Publish research findings in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
● Present research at conferences, workshops, and scientific forums.
● Contribute to grant writing, funded projects, multicentric studies, and clinical trials.
● Foster collaborations with national and international academic institutions and industry partners.
3. Teaching, Training & Mentorship
● Teach and mentor pediatric residents, endocrine fellows, nurses, diabetes educators, and allied health professionals.
● Conduct academic activities including lectures, bedside teaching, case discussions, journal clubs, and workshops.
● Supervise and guide trainees and junior faculty in clinical practice and research methodology.
● Promote a culture of inquiry, evidence-based practice, and academic excellence within the CoE and the HCJMRI.
4. Centre of Excellence Development & Leadership
● Contribute to the strategic planning, growth, and sustainability of the Centre of Excellence for Type 1 Diabetes.
● Develop and implement standardized clinical pathways and care models.
● Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and accreditation processes.
● Support innovation in digital health, telemedicine, and community outreach programs.
● Provide clinical, academic, and administrative leadership appropriate to seniority.
● Represent HCJMRI in professional, academic, and policy-related forums as required.
5. Administrative & Governance Responsibilities
● Maintain accurate clinical records and research documentation.
● Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and institutional initiatives.
● Ensure compliance with ethical standards, patient safety norms, and institutional policies.
● Support institutional reporting, audits, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications &
Experience:
Essential Qualifications
● MD / DNB in Pediatrics
● DM / DNB / Fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology
● Valid medical registration and Indemnity.
Experience
● Open to candidates across Consultant, Faculty, and Senior Faculty levels
