Job Description:

New River Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under a state-wide system of 23 community colleges. The college is located on a one-hundred plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia with an instructional site in Christiansburg. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs.

Approximately 4,000 students comprise the student body.

The college serves the educational needs of the public and assumes a duty to help provide the requirements for trained workers in the region through a combined effort with local industry, business, professions, and government.

Duties:
  • Provide high quality customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist students with all aspects of admissions and records including the college application, registration, graduation process and transcript requests.
  • Perform duties such as filing and scanning documents, entering detailed data into SIS, assisting with graduation, proctoring tests, and other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Work hours are limited to 29 hours per week and 1500 hours per year.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Excellent human relations skills for working with the public and with community college students, faculty, and administrators.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general office practices.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Additional Considerations:

Additional factors that may be considered include:

  • Work experience in a team-oriented postsecondary educational environment.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to college admissions and records.
  • Experience with People Soft Student Information System (SIS) or other comparable system.
