Position: Highway Maintenance Specialist - TM I Pueblo Traffic (CDL Required)

Overview

CDOT has a vacancy for a Highway Maintenance Specialist located in Pueblo, CO on our Traffic crew.

Base pay for this position is $2,053.85 biweekly ($53,400 annually). There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year. The annualized hourly rate is $25.67 per hour, with an overtime rate of $38.50/hour. Total annual compensation for this position is $53,400.

The anticipated work schedule is 10-hour days, 4 days per week (Monday – Thursday) with 3-day weekends. During the warm months this position works out of town typically April 15 – November
1. When traveling overnight, CDOT pays for the hotel and employees receive a per diem for meals.

What You Will Do

Your daily activities vary by project needs, weather, environment, and road conditions. You will be on-call on a rotating basis and may be required to respond to weather and other emergencies. You will typically work in a team environment, with at least one lead highway maintenance specialist and multiple highway maintenance specialists at each maintenance patrol location. Your main job activities include:

  • Installing pavement markings/striping
  • Installing and repairing guardrail, highway markers and signs, warning signs, and lighting
  • Plowing snow
  • Operating heavy equipment, such as tandem dump truck, loader, tractor mower, etc.
  • Setting out signs and cones for traffic control
  • Removing and covering graffiti
  • Stopping or slowing traffic in emergency situations
  • Maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs
  • Following safety guidance and wearing proper safety equipment

Your Work Environment
  • Exposure to loud noise
  • Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dusts, etc. that may affect breathing, eyes, and skin
  • Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Work with chemicals and cleaning products
  • Some equipment requires respirators
  • Work near traffic, sometimes at high speeds
  • Use ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10’–20’
  • Required to drive CDOT vehicles
  • May respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays
  • Willing and able to work in extreme temperatures and elevations up to 12,000 feet
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience
  • Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado

  • Experience operating equipment (e.g., dump trucks, loaders, bulldozers, backhoes) and hand tools

  • State service experience related to the duties of this position
Conditions of Employment
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes
  • If you have a non-Colorado CDL, you must be eligible to drive in Colorado at time of hire; if relocating to Colorado, you must transfer your CDL within 30 days
