Pipefitter​/Welder- Pueblo

Overview

This position is open to current Colorado residents only. This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies. The Division of Facilities Management - Southern Division is responsible for planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and management of CDHS facilities and campuses to promote a safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, consumers and staff.

Facilities served:
Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP), Department of Corrections facilities in Pueblo, Pueblo Regional Center (PRC), Division of Youth Services (DYS) – Zeb Pike, Spring Creek and Pueblo, and the Veteran’s Community Living Centers in the southern district.

You are required to work at your assigned work location during scheduled work times. Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

• Travel to CDHS locations within the Southern District to install, maintain, alter and/or repair steam equipment and piping (high and low pressure), air piping, steam traps, condensate equipment and piping, gas piping and all facility pumps.
• Monitor and repair control valves to systems and equipment.
• Drive to locations and install, maintain, and perform emergency repair of plumbing fixtures, water supply valves, hot and cold water piping, sewer drainage piping, sewer drainage traps, chiller equipment, water softeners, water heaters, kitchen appliances and hydronic pumps.
• Install, alter and repair hangers, supports and system protection. Calibrate and monitor water temperature mixing valves and high/low pressure gauges of water, steam, gas and flow meters.
• Perform pipe fitting at journeyman level, fabricating, welding, planning installations, and repair/maintenance of building infrastructure.
• Conduct initial troubleshooting and diagnosis of problems, including safety issues and requirements to resolve repair needs.
• Analyze systems and valves, determine requirements to resolve/repair problems, and interpret blueprints and as-built drawings for record management.
• Determine needs to repair and/or fabricate piping systems to meet design requirements per regulatory standards.
• Access piping system conditions, determine repair scope, coordinate and plan repairs; install, alter and repair piping supports and protections; fabricate piping to specifications.
• Monitor and repair control valves and pumps for heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.
• Obtain an asbestos abatement certification within the first year of employment.
• Snow removal and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience Only: at least three years of experience related to this position (boilermaker, pipe fitter, welding inspector, fabricator, etc.).

OR

Education and Experience:

a combination of related education, formal apprenticeship, and/or relevant experience equal to three years. Attach transcripts/apprenticeship documentation as part of the application.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current welding certification or documentation of previous 6G unlimited pipe thickness. Attach certification or documentation to the application.
• Relevant years of state service experience.

• Full pre-employment criminal background check required due to direct contact with vulnerable persons; certain convictions may disqualify applicants. Provide official dispositions as requested.
• State residency in Colorado required at application and throughout employment.
• Willingness to submit and pass full background check.
• Work in secure facilities in locked and unlocked environments.
• Must possess or obtain welding certification or documentation of 6G unlimited pipe thickness within 9 months of hire and maintain it.
• Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license; out-of-state license holders must obtain Colorado license within 30 days of start date.
• Pass Motor Vehicle Checks.
• Travel required; driving state vehicles to sites and may travel for training/meetings.
• Willingness to receive annual influenza vaccination or provide a medical/religious exemption.
• Pass tuberculosis (TB) test.
• This is an essential position requiring after-hours call-backs and timely response to emergencies.
