About the Position
Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) invites applications for the Registered Nurse II - Full Time. This posting will be used to fill multiple vacancies. This position has a residency waiver and will be accepting applications from residents and non-residents of Colorado. If appointed to a position, applicants from outside of Colorado will be required to relocate to Colorado prior to their start date, at their own expense.
This position will receive a short-staffing temporary pay differential of 4% from July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026. The candidate should be aware that the hiring manager may offer a similar role within the hospital on a different unit based on vacancies and business needs. All work locations evaluated will remain within CMHHIP.
CMHHIP is a 24-hour behavioral health acute care facility serving patients with psychiatric and medical needs. The unit ABTU houses adolescents 12–17 with psychiatric disorders and concurrent criminal involvement in a high-security setting.
Position DetailsABTU unit provides treatment for adolescents 12 through 17 with psychiatric disorders and concurrent criminal involvement; this is a medium-acuity, high-security unit located in Hawkins. The unit operates within CMHIP policies and adheres to applicable regulatory standards.

Responsibilities- Assist nursing staff with clinical direction and supervision, QA/PI activities, and ensure compliance across unit care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Facilitate groups and ensure nursing standards of care are implemented throughout all phases of the nursing process and delivery of services.
- Collaborate with other staff on the unit, coordinate across shift levels of care, and communicate nursing policies at the unit level.
- Support performance improvements at the unit level and assist with onsite surveys, documentation, and quality of care in alignment with regulatory standards.
- Provide clinical direction, supervision, and coordination of staffing by acuity, ensuring appropriate coverage and timely communication of needs to the Lead Nurse.
- Ensure nursing assignments comply with CMHIP policies and professional standards; communicate changes to staff through various channels.
- Support staff development, coaching, training, and cross-shift reporting; participate in multidisciplinary communications.
- Monitor and maintain infection control standards and ensure proper nursing care and patient safety on the unit.
- Deliver patient-centered care, including education on medications and psychiatric care needs; support trauma-informed care initiatives.
- Maintain nursing standards of care and ensure adherence to hospital procedures and ethics codes.
- Keep current with policies, standards, and literature related to nursing and specialty areas; notify staff promptly of issues on the unit.
- Collaborate with all departments and provide guidance for daily operations and cross-shift communications.
- Mentor, train, and provide feedback to maximize productivity of nursing personnel.
- Maintain up-to-date performance plans, competencies, and mandatory training.
- Ensure staff proficiency with BEHR and Cornerstone systems, including mandatory rosters and training.
- Support educational profiles and ensure compliance with mandatory competencies.
- Provide nursing care on the assigned shift and maintain a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment.
- Respond to psychiatric and medical issues promptly; participate in trauma-informed care initiatives.
- Document care properly, including seclusion/restraint monitoring and coordination with diagnostic and therapy services.
- Identify patients prior to medications and treatments; adhere to infection control standards.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care based on patient history and needs; uphold patient rights and legal considerations in mental health.
- Educate patients and families about medications and care plans; support group therapies and plans of care.
- Provide coverage on the shift/unit as needed to evaluate and revise nursing care.
