About CMHIP

Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) is a 24 hour behavioral health acute care facility that provides evaluation and treatment for patients who are severely mentally ill, with the goal of returning patients to their optimal level of functioning and reintegration into the community as appropriate. Position

Summary

This position exists to deliver nursing care and therapeutic interventions under the supervision of a registered nurse. The Client Care Aide II provides nursing care as assigned (e.g., activities of daily living, self-maintenance, and hygiene). Participates in implementation of the treatment plan and utilizes the plan of care as the basis for the provision of care.

Major responsibilities include patient observation and reporting, assisting with patient care as directed, and unit maintenance and security. Provides security and accountability for the client’s location and condition. May assist licensed staff in patient transport on or off grounds and monitoring of general client activities on an ongoing basis. Client Care Aides in the Flex Pool have a flexible schedule and provide essential direct care across various units, ranging from High Security to Low Security settings with a diverse patient population.

Units may feature locked or unlocked doors depending on the level of security required. Responsibilities include providing care to high-acuity patients in secure environments or in lower-security community reintegration settings.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Clinical Skills
  • Administer nursing care, both psychiatric and medical crisis interventions under the direction and supervision of an RN.
  • Monitor the milieu for needed interventions and utilize therapeutic interventions to manage crisis situations and behaviors.
  • Respond promptly to psychiatric and/or medical crises and report changes in patient condition or complaints to the RN.
  • Maintain awareness of 1:1, special precautions, and medical/psych issues for each patient.
  • Respond to duress alarms and ensure duties are completed and documented each shift.
  • Follow Infection Control standards and regulations.
  • Perform CCA duties which may include changing linen, obtaining and documenting vital signs, bathing, feeding and other ADL care, lifting/turning/transferring patients.
  • Organize time to assure timely completion of tasks and maintain competency in patient care.
  • Accountability
  • Adhere to CMHIP standards and guidelines (Treatment Plans, Infection Control Manual, Rainbow book, Emergency Guides).
  • Maintain certification and follow nursing competencies related to the CCA II.
  • Utilize the Nursing chain of command and provide safe/secure transport of patients as needed.
  • Document toward Nursing Department standards; access and use the nursing drive; ensure educational profile is current; participate in QA/PI process; attend weekly nursing rounds or NEC minutes.
  • Report harassment or workplace violence, and inform authorities as required; arrive on time and prepared; manage leave as per policies.
  • Communication/Interpersonal Skills/Customer Service
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and patients; adapt communication to different audiences; address patient complaints; report changes in patient status; document incidents and hazardous environmental findings; treat all patients and staff with respect.
  • Other Duties
  • Perform assigned tasks within the scope of practice for this position as directed.
Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED and one year of experience in a mental health or inpatient hospital setting. Substitutions:
