Position Overview
United Way of Utah County is seeking an Ameri Corps VISTA to improve access to digital literacy education and computers for low-income and underserved communities across Utah County. This position focuses on strengthening the Digital Literacy Program, extending its impact, expanding volunteer teaching and computer testing, and enhancing the computer donation program. The VISTA will serve as a bridge connecting underserved individuals with free devices and education, forming partnerships with local organizations and expanding our reach into the community.
This is a capacity-building role, meaning the VISTA will focus on creating sustainable solutions rather than providing direct service.
What You'll Be Doing Inventory Tracking & Data Systems- Identify current challenges and areas for improvement in the existing inventory system
- Collaborate with stakeholders to design enhancements that improve monitoring of donors, recipients, and success stories
- Develop and refine processes for collecting and analyzing data using the tracking system
- Create guidelines and best practices to ensure data is effectively used to inform program decisions and improve outcomes
- Conduct a needs assessment among program participants to determine current skills and knowledge levels, identifying areas for improvement
- Revise the curriculum based on needs assessment findings, incorporating new materials, activities, and resources to address identified needs
- Solicit feedback from participants and instructors on the revised curriculum, making adjustments to ensure the program remains engaging and effective
- Help ensure curriculum materials are adaptable and accessible for diverse populations
- Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment plan, including strategies for outreach and engagement with potential volunteers from the local community and partner organizations
- Actively engage with potential volunteers through community events, social media campaigns, and storytelling initiatives
- Coordinate and improve volunteer onboarding and training, ensuring new volunteers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support program activities
- Develop processes for collecting and sharing program stories and photos that highlight the impact of the Digital Literacy Program
- Create templates, trainings, and guidelines to ensure consistency and ease of transition for future staff
- Gather feedback and make improvements to systems to ensure they remain effective and sustainable
- Interest in nonprofit work, education, community development, or public service
- Strong organizational, communication, and research skills
- Comfortable creating systems, documentation, and templates
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience with outreach, writing, research, or data tracking is helpful but not required
- Full-time Ameri Corps VISTA service (approximately 40 hours per week)
- Service term: April 6, 2026 -- April 5, 2027
- Start date: April 6, 2026
