Building Operations Manager - Athletics

Job Description

This position is responsible for managing the day‑to‑day operations of the assigned buildings and providing support for all area‑related events. Requirements include instructing and working with employees while performing all building operation functions and event set‑ups scheduled in the buildings. The role includes training employees on safety protocols and equipment use.

Assigned Schedule: 6:00 pm – 2:30 am, Tuesday‑Saturday

What You’ll Do in This Position
  • Operations and Building Care Standards
    • Provide leadership, training, and job oversight to all employees.
    • Manage the cleanliness of assigned buildings, coordinating with full‑time, part‑time, and student workers.
  • Administration, Communication, and Customer Relations
    • Determine needs and submit work orders for maintenance (painting, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc.) and follow up until resolved.
    • Maintain contact with patrons to assess satisfaction and address concerns.
  • Leadership Support
    • Guide employee development by teaching, training, and mentoring.
    • Communicate, encourage, and hold accountable all employees regarding their responsibilities.
  • Seek Personal and Professional Development
    • Attend relevant seminars, workshops, and conferences.
    • Engage in personal study of administrative and skill development materials.
Required Qualifications
  • Firm commitment to BYU’s mission.
  • At least one year of professional experience in building operations or a related industry (or current BYU Building Operations Manager).
Physical Exam and Lift Test Required Physical Effort
  • Moderate effort: handling medium‑weight objects (20‑50 lb) and tools; may involve climbing ladders and working in awkward positions.
Environment
  • Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as weather, cramped or dirty quarters.
Hazards
  • Potential for existing or new hazards related to building maintenance.
Physical Requirements
  • Perform tasks such as lifting chairs, climbing ladders, changing light bulbs, and operating equipment for 6–8 h per day.
  • Closed‑toe shoes and gloves recommended; eye and hearing protection required when handling chemicals.
  • Snow removal participation may be required; appropriate cold‑weather gear recommended.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of building care experience.
  • One year of supervisory experience.

Pay Grade: 49

Typical Starting Pay: $24.03 – $28.75 per hour
