Job Description

Help create a welcoming, safe, and supportive living environment for Brigham Young University students. In this role, you’ll contribute to facilities, programs, and services that are both fiscally responsible and thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of students and guests. Your work will directly support BYU’s academic mission, foster a community grounded in moral integrity, and strengthen the university’s partnership with Church organizations.

This position serves over 6,500 single students and 1,000 families and 30,000 summer guests who are accommodated in on-campus housing. There are 2,800 BYU Contracted Off-Campus Housing spaces and 23 landlords. Approximately 20% of the university’s number of buildings are overseen by the Director of Residence Life. This position is on-call for emergencies and critical incidents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

What

You’ll Do
  • Promote a physically and morally safe and supportive environment which encourages academic purposes.
  • Assure adequate and comfortable living accommodations for off campus students.
  • Assure financial stability of student housing operations.
  • Provide safe, attractive and comfortable living accommodations for on-campus students and guests.
  • Supervise administrative and department support staff.
  • Support University Administration.
Required Qualifications
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of Residence Life experience, or 10 years of experience with university administration, housing management, counseling, facility management or related fields.
  • Understanding of public relations issues of housing in the broader university context.
  • Understanding of student developmental theory.
  • Understanding of local, state and federal laws and ordinances which govern landlord/tenant issues, Title IX provisions for gender segregated housing, Fair Housing Act, ADA, Section 504, etc., as they relate to student housing.
  • Knowledge of business operations, i.e. accounting, budgets and finances.
  • Sensitivity to liability issues including safety and security, personnel issues, discrimination, etc.
  • Ability to work with many people in and outside the university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Four years of experience.
  • Basic understanding of architecture, construction and maintenance processes and facilities management.

Typical Starting Pay

$134,500 to $175,000
