This introductory online course focuses on communication as a critical and transferable skill in professional contexts. Students will explore effective communication through intentional use of the voice in daily interactions, meetings, classroom and public presentations, as well as professional environments. Exercises will include practice of breathing techniques for relaxation and confidence, approaches to postural alignment, and methods for effective listening. Students will strengthen and develop confidence in a supportive, playful, participatory and collaborative environment.

This course is suited to students in a variety of professional programs, English as additional language learners, or for those who would like to learn a full range of communication skills.

Experience teaching voice/acting or communication at a recognized theatre school or university; professional acting/theatre experience.

MFA in Acting/Performance. Diploma in voice training from an accredited institution; background in communications; professional background in performance. Experience teaching voice and communication to English as additional language students. Experience teaching voice or communication within educational or professional contexts outside of performance training.

• Develop a detailed syllabus and curriculum for the course
• Plan and deliver lectures online for synchronous, asynchronous, individual and group assignments and assessments
• Evaluate student performance
• Design and invigilate assignments, tests and exams (if applicable)
• Hold office hours and meet with students as they request
• Manage course content and grades on Quercus, CIS and Emarks
• Supervise a teaching assistant (if applicable)
• Handle other pedagogical and administrative tasks ordinarily associated with an undergraduate course
