Instructional Designer – Professional Development Training

Working alongside other instructional designers, authors, campus faculty, and instructors, and various stakeholders to design online professional development trainings for various products. Each designer supervises his/her own student instructional design assistant(s).

What You’ll Do In This Position Instructional Design and Course Management
  • Design noncredit professional training for campus and external partners.
  • Define learning outcomes and create compliant design plans with faculty, authors, and instructors.
  • Develop assessments, activities, and LMS course builds aligned to outcomes and quality standards.
  • Oversee course quality through feedback, revisions, third‑party integrations, and collaboration with production teams.
Project Management
  • Establish, communicate, and manage project timelines, budgets, and scope changes.
  • Coordinate with production, media, and programming teams to ensure design integrity and fiscal alignment.
  • Support administrators in keeping courses on schedule, within budget, and meeting quality standards.
Training and Professional Development
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through conferences, research, and policy awareness.
  • Participate in peer reviews and model professional conduct and university citizenship.
  • Mentor associate instructional designers and design assistants.
Establish and Maintain Author Relationships
  • Build and sustain productive relationships with faculty, authors, and subject‑matter experts.
  • Support authors through feedback and guidance during new development and major revisions.
  • Provide input to supervisors on improving training materials and support processes.
Instructional Design Leadership
  • Contribute to portfolio strategy, process improvement, and new product development.
  • Mentor designers and learners to grow as capable, Christlike leaders.
  • Champion the mission, vision, and values of Continuing Education and BYU.
What Qualifies You For This Role Associate Instructional Designer (Level 52: $63,500 - $82,500)
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or closely related field
  • One or more years’ full‑time direct work experience in the field of course design and production.
  • At least one year of teaching or experience designing online professional development trainings.
  • Proficient with an LMS (such as Canvas or Buzz)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
Instructional Designer (Level 53 $ 71,000 - $92,500)
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or closely related field
  • Three or more years’ work experience in the field of course design and production.
  • Teaching or experience designing online professional development trainings.
  • Proficient with an LMS (such as Canvas or Buzz)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
Senior Instructional Designer (Level 54 $ 79,500 - $103,500)
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or closely related field
  • Seven or more years of full‑time direct work experience in the field of course design and production. Or an equivalent combination of a bachelor’s degree in instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a closely related field, plus nine or more years of full‑time direct work experience in the field of course design and production.
  • Proficient with an LMS (such as Canvas or Buzz)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
Preferred
  • Familiar with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiar with e‑learning development tools (such as Smart Builder, H5P interactives, or Articulate Storyline)
