Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced diagnostic work on drive-ability issues, electrical systems, engines, transmissions, suspension, and brakes.
- Conduct detailed inspections and identify mechanical problems using diagnostic tools and test equipment.
- Carry out major repairs including engine and transmission overhauls, as well as HVAC and steering system repairs.
- Follow all dealership and manufacturer repair procedures and standards.
- Communicate effectively with service advisors and other team members regarding vehicle status and repair timelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Stay current with factory technical bulletins and service training.
- Adhere to safety protocols and dealership policies at all times.
1. Education & Certification
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Trade school or technical training in automotive repair (preferred)
- ASE Certifications (Automotive Service Excellence) - highly valued
- Manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Mopar, Ford, GM, Toyota)
- 1-5 years of hands-on experience in automotive repair or maintenance (depending on role level)
- Diagnostic experience using scan tools (for advanced techs)
- Experience working with specific brands or types of vehicles (if dealership-based)
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities
- Knowledge of engine, transmission, brake, suspension, and HVAC systems
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and schematics
- Proficient with diagnostic equipment and tools (OBD-II scanners, multi-meters)
- Basic computer literacy (for repair orders, diagnostics, online training)
- Dependable and punctual
- Strong attention to detail
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Problem-solving mindset
- Commitment to continuous learning
- Valid driver's license (required)
- Clean driving record (often required for insurance purposes)
