Brown University Athletics and Recreation — Assistant Coach, Field Hockey
Brown University Athletics and Recreation, located in Providence, Rhode Island and a member of the Ivy League, is seeking a full‑time Assistant Coach for its women's field hockey program. The program encompasses 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 student‑athletes competing at the NCAA Division I level.
ResponsibilitiesAs the primary assistant to the Head Coach, the incumbent will:
- Plan and conduct individual and team practices, incorporating specialized skill development.
- Develop game strategy and assist in in‑game coaching decisions.
- Mentor student‑athletes, focusing on individual growth and performance.
- Serve as a communication liaison between the Head Coach and athletes.
- Support recruiting efforts and evaluate prospective players.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 2‑4 years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
- Strong knowledge of field hockey, player development, and NCAA compliance.
- Excellent organizational, instructional, and communication skills.
- Ability to utilize video analysis, performance review tools, and basic data collection.
- Proficiency in designing practice plans and evaluating athlete performance.
- Experience with recruiting processes, athlete evaluation, and injury prevention.
- Commitment to a collaborative, inclusive team environment and campus community.
- Compliance with NCAA, Ivy League, and Brown University rules and regulations.
Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (available at no cost through the Division). All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown.
