Dining Service Supervisor
Dining Services
The Dining Services Supervisor is focused on the day-to-day operations of the Dining Services units. This position is responsible for running shifts; including opening and closing; for various units. With a focus on professional development, this position supervises and trains 25+ union employees at any given time as well as Brown University student workers, college interns from local universities, and temporary employees through a variety of temporary workforce groups.
The successful candidate will oversee the daily administrative and operations task focusing on sanitation and safety. The Dining Services Supervisor reports directly to the Assistant Director of their respective area to provide high-quality service to customers.

- Lead daily operations for Dining Services units, including opening and closing shifts.
- Supervise and train 25+ union employees, student workers, interns, and temporary staff.
- Oversee daily administrative tasks with emphasis on sanitation and safety.
- Coordinate with the Assistant Director to ensure high-quality customer service.
Education and Experience
- Minimum two years of supervisory experience in a food service environment, and an Associate degree in HRI or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Effective communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean recent driving record.
- Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, Google platforms; experience with menu/inventory management system preferred.
- Experience with POS system.
- Culinary knowledge and/or experience.
- RI Food Safety Management License or Serv Safe equivalency; if not, candidate is required to obtain within one year of hire.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Demonstrated high standards of quality and sanitation.
- Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and work independently; ability to effectively work with a team.
- Some positions are full time and others are 10-month positions with 2 months off in the summer (mid-June to mid-August).
- Schedule typically is 45-50 hours per week (five days) and includes late-night (ending at approx. 2:30 a.m.) and weekend shifts.
