Overview
SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager (or designee) implements, supervises and evaluates the nursing care of each patient using a nursing process and in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. From admission to discharge, plans with consideration of the aging process throughout the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns. - Provides direct patient care.
- Provides leadership by delegating, supervising and participating in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel.
- Evaluates effectiveness of patient care and identifies opportunities for improvement.

- Assumes charge nurse responsibility for the patient care unit as delegated.
- Competency Assessment and Advanced Respiratory Assessment and interventions including: successfully cares for patients receiving non-invasive and invasive ventilatory interventions, Critical Airway Guidelines, monitors and interprets end tidal CO2, interprets blood gas results, assists with intubation.
- Advanced Cardiac Assessment and Hemodynamic Monitoring: ECG monitoring and arrhythmia recognition, defibrillation, cardioversion, drug intervention, and pacing; cares for patients with congenital heart defects; hemodynamic monitoring including arterial line and central venous pressure monitoring; neuro checks and pulse assessment with Doppler; obtains a 12 lead EKG.
- Neuro Critical Care: manages an EVD; monitors ICP and delivers appropriate interventions; proficient in Glasgow Coma Scale; manages a lumbar drain; maintains spinal precautions; cares for patients with spinal cord injury.
- Surgical Critical Care: manages immediate post-operative phase of complex surgeries including neurosurgical, orthopedic, spinal, plastic, vascular, otolaryngology, and complex general surgeries.
- Patient Teaching: provides education to patient according to age and developmental level; evaluates patient and/or family response to teaching using teach-back and Get Well Network methodologies.

Skills:
care and management of patients receiving ECMO, CRRT; management of burn patients; post-operative kidney transplant patient; stroke patient including administering tPA; PPE for high-risk patients; oncological emergencies; traveling with critically ill pediatric patients; use of smart pump technology for vasoactive and other high-risk meds; monitors during sedation for procedures; responds to pediatric code/rapid response calls; end-of-life care and bereavement care; organ donation support;
equipment proficiency (cardiac monitors, Giraffe warmer, Bair Hugger, cooling blanket, hot line warmer, Doppler); leadership roles including presenting nursing reports at interdisciplinary rounds and participating in unit-based huddles to support a safety culture.
