SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Clinic Administrator or Physician, and according to established procedures, provides care to patients and families. Responsible and accountable for the care provided whether it is solely by said nurse or together with others under his/her supervision. Implements and coordinates the steps of the nursing process, involves the patient in decision making relative to care and is responsible for making nursing care judgments and acting upon them.
Collaborates with Physicians in the management of prescribed medical plans of care. Involves implementation of the physician prescribed regimen, evaluates patient response to the regimen and communicates changes to the Physician. Functions under protocol which extend responsibilities for medical management activities. Coordinates the patient plan of care with nurses, Physicians and other members of the Health Team and community agencies to provide an integrated and comprehensive approach to care delivery.
Responsible for participating in educational, quality assurance and research activities. Acts as a consultant, sharing clinical expertise and knowledge with other health care providers and community members. Performs clinical management functions specifically delegated by the Clinical Manager. Participates in organizational planning and decision making which affect patient care and Ambulatory Service operations. Also participates in related nursing, medical and hospital committee activities.

- Responsible to the Clinical Manager, meets and maintains competence as defined by the clinical service experience and credential requirements, and provides nursing care to patients.
- Implements and coordinates the steps of the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, prescription, intervention, and evaluation.
- Delegates, supervises and coordinates nursing care activities provided by personnel assigned to assist in nursing care, such as Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Orderlies, and Technicians.
- Implements the prescribed medical regimen, evaluates the patient response and advises the Physician of changes in the patient’s condition.
- Performs extended functions in accordance with written Rhode Island Hospital protocols and policies.
- Participates in clinic and departmental level collaborative activities such as joint case presentations and grand rounds.
- Collaborates continuously with the patient, family, Physician, nurses and other health team members to integrate, evaluate and ensure continuity of the plan of care.
- Identifies with and makes referrals to health team resources within the hospital and the community and serves as a consultant to others.
- Provides, coordinates and documents teaching for patients and families related to management of the health problem, health promotion and rehabilitation.
- Seeks out and participates in activities leading to self‑growth and professional development.
- Updates knowledge of professional, medical and technological developments and participates in incorporating these into clinical nursing practice.
- Participates in educational activities commensurate with learning needs and individual ability such as conferences, seminars and orientation of new staff.
