Registered Nurse I – Brown University Health
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager (or designee), implements, supervises, and evaluates nursing care for each patient using the nursing process in accordance with hospital policies. The role spans admission to discharge with a focus on compassionate and culturally sensitive care across the lifespan.
Responsibilities- Provides direct patient care and leads by delegating, supervising, and participating in safe nursing activities.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care, identifies improvement opportunities, and collaborates with the healthcare team, patients, families, and community services on outcomes and discharge planning.
- Assesses and delivers appropriate teaching based on patient and family needs.
- Participates in unit-based quality improvement and research activities.
- Utilizes available resources to deliver quality, cost‑effective patient care.
- Maintains clinical competencies through mandated education, Basic Life Support, ACLS/PALS, and other standards.
- Identifies growth needs, engages in educational opportunities, and actively participates in professional organizations.
- Serves as a role model/preceptor for new graduate nurses and less experienced staff.
- Assumes charge nurse responsibilities for the unit as delegated.
- Demonstrates care and compassion for a wide pediatric age range and diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Prioritizes care in an emergency department setting, considering physical, psychological, social, and flow factors.
- Cares for patients on cardiac monitors, with respiratory or life‑threatening medical issues, and traumatic injuries.
- Performs focused assessment of chief complaints in a timely manner.
- Manages patient care from arrival to admission and facilitates timely discharges.
- Current RN license in the State of Rhode Island (or RN licensure under the Nurse Licensure Compact).
- BSN preferred;
Certified Wound Nurse, Certified Wound Specialist (CWS), or Certified Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (CWOCN) preferred. - Minimum two years of clinical experience in medical‑surgical nursing, ambulatory or surgical services in a hospital, or high‑volume outpatient clinic experience.
- Positive, caring, customer‑service oriented attitude.
Licensure as Registered Nurse in Rhode Island (or under the Nurse Licensure Compact). Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred.
Work Environment &Physical Requirements
- Vision and hearing sufficient to monitor patient status.
- Physical ability to assist in lifting, positioning, and moving patients; capable of standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform CPR and engage in fast‑paced environments with frequent interruptions.
Pay Range $34.52‑$58.24
Location Rhode Island Hospital – 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903
Work Type 3:00 am – 3:30 pm every other weekend/holiday
